Emily Strenger is a pianist and teacher from the Philadelphia and South Jersey area. She began performing at a age 8 and participated in several competitions, festivals, and competitive recitals, including the Oberlin International Piano Competition and the Rome Festival in Rome, Italy. Emily received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy from Temple University in 2011; there, she studied Classical performance under Alexander Fiorillo, Maria del Pico Taylor, and Clipper Erickson. She studied the Suzuki method with Joan Krzywicki and Caroline Fraser, and the Taubman approach to piano technique with Maria del Pico Taylor, Maria Hubler, Sondra Tamman, and Angelin Chang. On the East Coast, she was on the faculty of Temple Music Prep in Philadelphia and the Moorestown School of Music in Moorestown, NJ, where she taught mainly using the Suzuki method.
Since moving to Portland, Emily has discovered a love of arranging songs for her students. She believes that no music should be off-limits just because it wasn’t originally for piano, and that as a teacher, she has a duty to continually improve her own skills for her students. When not in the studio teaching or writing for HoffmanAcademy.com’s blog, Emily enjoys reading everything from novels to cookbooks, being in the kitchen or garden, and sharing good meals and conversation with friends and family. She lives in Southeast Portland with her husband, baker and blogger Matt Strenger, and their adorable black cat, Cleo.
