The Hoffman Method

A fun way to learn music!

The Hoffman Method is a rigorous and comprehensive music curriculum.
The aim of the Hoffman Method is to create well-rounded musicians who not only play, but who truly comprehend music. Students who use the Hoffman Method develop a broad array of musical skills and a sense of empowerment in knowing they can express themselves creatively and meaningfully through the language of music.

To achieve this, the Hoffman Method emphasizes the following areas of learning: music theory, ear training, improvisation, sight reading, technique, solfege, composition and rhythm.

Q & A

  • We recommend that parents attend lessons for beginning students and those 9 years old or younger. Young students often need guidance, encouragement, and support at home to complete their daily practice assignments. By attending lessons, parents learn what the teacher wants the student to focus on during the week and what the student is doing well. This knowledge helps parents provide effective support at home. Even without musical training, parents can help by offering structure and encouragement to establish good daily practice habits, leading to faster progress and more meaningful lessons.

  • The specific amount of practice time is less important than maintaining a consistent, daily routine. At the Academy, we expect students to practice six out of seven days a week, if not every day, and to complete their daily assignments from their teacher. For beginners, 15-20 minutes a day is usually sufficient. As students advance, their daily practice time should gradually increase. Consistent practice is key to making steady progress and achieving success in their musical journey.

  • We are known for providing music lessons that kids find engaging and fun. Many parents report that their children love lessons and practice willingly. However, students may occasionally feel discouraged or resistant to practicing. Developing musical skills takes years of dedicated practice, and hitting a "hump" is normal. The best solution is a supportive parent-teacher team. Learning music is challenging but rewarding, and children need love, encouragement, and consistent support to succeed.
